Meet TriYoga of Central Pennsylvania
TriYoga of Central Pennsylvania has deep roots with yoga in the State College area. From 2000-2023, our yoga studio in State College and later Boalsburg, our yoga studio in Bellefonte and our yoga studio in Penns Valley served hundreds of students in-person. Transformed by the COVID pandemic of 2020, our non-profit organization moved fully online in 2023, expanding offerings to give students greater flexibility and access. In-person events, retreats and teacher trainings bring the community together regularly. Founded by Senior-level TriYoga Teacher Theresa Shay, who has been voted among the Best Yoga Teachers in State College for years, TriYoga of Central Pennsylvania is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and chapter of TriYoga International.
Meet Theresa
When I left school teaching after a decade of service, my intention was to sit still until I figured out what to do next. That pause led to a powerful awakening, and an inner connection began to guide my life.
I never wanted to be the teacher of the yoga - I only got trained so I could have friends to flow with. I started out deeply disconnected from my body. I wore a back brace for scoliosis through high school and avoided physical activity entirely. Furthermore, I had no idea what a calmer mind could bring my life. I was trained by prestigious institutions to think better, harder, faster, and smarter. The health, happiness and wisdom I have gained from studying TriYoga with Yogini Kaliji over the past 30 years has made me passionate about sharing with you what has been shown to me.
Meet Morgan
I have been studying TriYoga with Theresa since 2004 and have been teaching yoga since 2003. I’m a middle school English teacher, mother, and lover of nature. I credit TriYoga with helping me transform my relationship with anxiety.
Meet Jess
I discovered TriYoga over twenty years ago. As an elementary school teacher, my weekly yoga classes were a lifeline back then. I dabbled in other types of yoga after moving back to Pennsylvania, but once my body discovered the Flow, nothing else felt quite the same.
In 2016, I connected with TriYoga of Central Pennsylvania’s teacher training program with the hope of bringing TriYoga back into my life. The plan worked - so well, in fact, that I took more teacher training courses, became certified in Basics and Level 1, set up my own weekly class in rural Sullivan County where I live, and became the Communications Coordinator for TYCP. I love serving our students, supporting Theresa’s teaching, and sending our message of greater ease and calm out into the world.
We teach what has served us.
Relax your body
We carry more tension than we realize, so taking time to relax allows the body to access its natural healthy state. In the letting go, strength and flexibility easily increase.
Lengthen your breath
Breath is an integral aspect of being that, used consciously, can shift our physical and mental state. Conscious, long, deep breaths transform us.
Focus your mind
By relaxing the body and directing the breath, we naturally establish a calmer, more peaceful mind. This focus allows us to enter the flow of life.
