In Memory - DJ Lilly

By Theresa Shay

DJ Lilly passed away unexpectedly without sign of struggle. DJ was a friend, flow-er, donor, and energized supporter of TriYoga of Central Pennsylvania, as well as a longtime employee at Schlow Library. She originally joined TriYoga classes years ago when TYCP was housed in the Allen Street building on stilts. DJ practiced everywhere: at the Boalsburg studio, in Spring Mills, and at both Bellefonte studios. She volunteered selflessly to help renovate the space at 214 W. High Street in Bellefonte. When the pandemic arrived, DJ enjoyed 1:1 sessions from home in the company of her two beautiful cats, the Lincolns.

DJ assisted Theresa in teaching the course Well Rounded Yoga, and presented to the TriYoga Teacher Training class of 2019.

In her own words, “I've figured out ways to do poses that I never thought I could do. Instead of wondering when I could leave, I've actually learned to still my mind during deep relaxation. Most importantly, after nearly 50 years of fighting against it, TriYoga has helped me accept my body for what it is."

DJ helped coin the phrase Theresa has often repeated in her teaching: My mind should weigh less than it does.

DJ used yoga breathing a number of times during the endless medical tests and procedures that ensued from a cancer diagnosis, and was able to calm herself and make whatever was going on a little less onerous.

She is survived by her two beloved cats, Tad Lincoln Lilly and Merry Todd Lincoln Lilly.
